ICC-CPI-20100607-PR540The Registrar of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Silvana Arbia, together with representatives of States Parties to the Rome Statute, travelled to Bunia, the capital of Ituri, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on 5 June, 2010, to interact with affected communities and hear their views and concerns in relation to the work of the Court. The delegation consisted of representatives from 13 States Parties (Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland), interested in learning more about the activities of the ICC field office in Bunia; they were able to see for themselves the progress achieved and the daily challenges which need to be overcome in the field in order to fulfil the mandate of the Court… (read more)

ICC-CPI-20100603-PR536In the context of the stocktaking exercise on international criminal justice, a “Peace and Justice” session was held during the Review Conference in Kampala. The debates offered an opportunity for States to affirm that peace and justice are complementary, rather than mutually exclusive. The first speaker of the panel, Mr David Tolbert, President of the International Center for Transitional Justice, stated that the long-term benefits of pursuing justice far outweigh any short-term benefits of amnesties. ICC-CPI-20100602-PR535The Registrar of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Madame Silvana Arbia, participated today in a panel discussion on the impact of the work of the Court on victims and affected communities. Discussions focused on participation of victims, protection of victims and witnesses, the role of outreach and the Trust Fund for Victims. The event was organised by the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute as part of its stocktaking exercise during the Review Conference of the Rome Statute, held in Kampala, Uganda.
